Dååth Release Cover of Morbid Angel’s “Where the Slime Live” Featuring Guest Solo from David Davidson of Revocation

Band currently in the studio recording new material.

Metal Blade set to release band’s classic album, The Hinderers, on Vinyl

Check out Where the Slime Live here and pre-order The Hinderers on Vinyl here!

Dååth’s just released their latest digital single, a cover of Morbid Angel’s classic Where the Slime Live featuring a guest guitar solo performance by Dave Davidson of Revocation. The track was mixed and mastered by Dave Otero with artwork by Ryan Wolanski.

Guitarist Eyal Levi had this to say about the cover: “It’s funny to say this because ‘Where The Slime Live’ is a total classic, but I’ve been feeling like people have not been giving Trey and co their due for the massive impact they’ve had on the evolution of metal. Not that our version of this song is going to change the world, but if any Morbid Angel song deserves the modern treatment, it’s this one. Everything about it more than holds up and showcasing it in this fashion really illuminates how ahead of their time they were. I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed learning and interpreting this BANGER of a song!”

Dave Davidson added: “‘Where The Slime Live’ is one of my favorite Morbid tunes so I was stoked to be asked to lay down a solo for this killer cover. Trey has a very unique style so it was a cool challenge to tap into his vibe and let the lava flow so to speak. Hope y’all dig it!”

“As a fan of Dååth since the original demos in 2003 I absolutely jumped at the opportunity to work with the band two decades later. They perfectly executed the recording of Where the Slime Live and I’m really proud of the final mix” comments Dave Otero.

About the band:
Dååth is an American progressive death metal band based in Atlanta, Georgia. The band began their journey in 1999 and stayed busy for just over a decade before taking a hiatus in 2011. In that time, Dååth released 4 studio albums (Futility – self-released 2004, The Hinderers – Roadrunner Records 2007, The Concealers – Century Media 2009, Dååth – Century Media 2010) and toured throughout the world with bands like Dark Funeral, Naglfar, Zyklon, Dragonforce, Goatwhore, Chimaira, Throwdown, Dying Fetus, and Devildriver, making a lasting impression with the metal community and its many subgenres. Dååth also landed a coveted spot on Ozzfest playing before tens of thousands of fans in outdoor amphitheaters across the US, in addition to the infamous and long-running metal tour, Summer Slaughter.

In their time, Dååth managed to create an extensive fanbase worldwide with their unique brand of experimental death metal, which makes it no surprise that the metal community lit up once rumors of the band’s return began to surface online. The metal community only continued to buzz with support as members began making posts teasing new material. The metal world made it clear they were ready for the return of one of the strongest progressive death metal bands of the first part of the 00’s.

Dååth is now back with an updated lineup and stronger than ever, which can be heard in the group’s new single “No Rest No End” that saw digital release by Metal Blade Records on February 22, 2023. The track features guest solos by Rafael Trujillo (Obsidious, ex-Obscura, instagram.com/rafaeltrujillo_official) and Spiro Dussias (instagram.com/spirodussias) and was mixed by Jens Bogren (Sepultura, At The Gates, Kreator, Dimmu Borgir), mastered by Tony Lindgren (Enslaved, Katatonia, Leprous, Wardruna), with vocal production by Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Motionless In White, Wage War), and engineering by John Doug

lass (Megadeth, Alluvial, The Contortionist).

Dååth followed up the release of “No Rest No End” with a cover of Death’s “The Philosopher” that features Dan Sugarman of Ice Nine Kills and Rafael Trujillo, released digitally on April 24, 2023.

The last single released by Dååth (May 30) was “Purified By Vengeance” and features both Mark Holcomb of Periphery and composer and sound designer Mick Gordon. The track was mixed by Jens Bogren, with Andrew Wade as vocal producer, and John Douglass handling engineering duties.

Metropolis Records and Zanias Join Forces to Unleash Chrysalis, an Electrifying Journey of Genre-Defying Art Pop!

Metropolis Records is Proud to Welcome ZANIAS
Metropolis Records has partnered with Fleisch Records to release the new album Chrysalis in North and South America.

Since 2014, Zanias has existed as the unrepentant creative venture of Alison Lewis, born in Australia, raised in Southeast Asia, and also known for her vocal work with Linea Aspera, Keluar and a record shelf’s worth of collaborations with the likes of Black Rain, Ancient Methods, Dax J, I Hate Models and Infravision.

As the sole custodian of Fleisch Records she spent many years attuning herself to Berlin dancefloors through the timely collision of techno and electronic body music, but her true passion is for understanding the modality of emotions through songwriting. Sound is her psycho-spiritual catharsis and philosophical exploration of existence, expressed through an intense vocal performance, evocative melodies and heavy rhythmic components.
With this signature structure she seeks to reinvent her own brand of ethereal pop: atmospheric, multi-layered and as alien as it is authentically, vulnerably human.

The creation of ‘Chrysalis’ was a retreat from a seemingly endless string of unfortunate events, a cocoon from which Zanias could weave hope from hopelessness. In each of its eight songs she has engineered unique worlds to express alternate facets of the modern human experience, from burnout and the toxicity of capitalism to processing death and the inherent isolation of personal trauma.

Written and recorded between Berlin and the rainforest of Queensland, Australia, the sound design of ‘Chrysalis’ reflects the rich biodiversity of the latter environment, where she drew much of her inspiration. Her voice shifts and morphs into ghostly, alien forms between catchy hooks that plant this album firmly in the ‘pop’ genre, without losing the underground rawness and lyrical depth for which she is known.

With her third full-length album, Chrysalis, Zanias is expressing her truest form thus far, fusing her seemingly discordant influences into a genre-defying electronic art pop, as dark and evocative as it is ethereal and uplifting.

Igniting Transformation Through Aggrotech and Industrial Sounds

In 2006, an electrifying moment took place when our interviewee witnessed Hocico perform live in Tijuana. From that moment on, Her passion for the aggressive and angst-ridden sounds of Aggrotech and Industrial music was ignited. It was a turning point that set them on a path towards Her musical career.

Her name is inspired by Kentaro Miura’s dark horror comic, “Berserk,” and as such, her project carries a unique essence;
A manifestation of the suppressed aggression and anguish that exists within the world, providing an outlet for expression and release.

The creative process for Barbieserk involves a constant evolution, with a cognizance on frequencies, she has honed her skills and been inspired by fellow DJs.
Encouraged to master the art of beat matching, she has grown in passion and experience.
Through this creative process, Barbieserk channels emotions, environments, and personal moments into the music, creating an immersive experience for dancers.

Her journey has not been without challenges though;
Public scrutiny and the need to address inexcusable public behavior from a former member of the collective presented a difficult hurdle. Yet, our Barbieserk stood firm, recognizing the importance of integrity and maintaining a respectful approach.
Lessons were learned, and the commitment to upholding moral values remained steadfast.

Music possesses a transformative power that extends beyond mere entertainment.
Barbieserk recognizes this and believes in the potential for music to lead to societal changes, by addressing important issues. She personally understands the impact of music on the world and actively participates in activism as it regards empowering a positive societal difference.

Influenced by iconic acts such as Hocico, God Module, Alien Vampires, and Noisuf-X, Barbieserk weaves together the raw sounds of industrial dance music, incorporating snippets of sound bites from movies or political speeches, in order to create a distinct and stylistic playlist, which dancers can’t help but activate to.

Within her repertoire lies a soundscape of emotions, with hidden meanings and subtexts waiting to be discovered by attentive listeners. Each song carries a message, a theme, or a feeling that transcends the surface and invites deeper reflection and interpretation.

For Barbieserk, the ultimate reward lies in seeing even a single person actively enjoying her music. The joy of connecting with an audience of individuals, creating an atmosphere where emotions can be freely expressed outweighs the challenges and sacrifices that come with a career in music. The path she has traveled to arrive at this mindset, taught her resilience and the ability to navigate rejection, while cherishing every opportunity to perform to a packed crowd of energetic individuals.

As to the future, Barbieserk’s goals remain focused on evolving her artistic style, and introducing original music to the scene.
She aspires to host live musical performances by artists within the genre, into the collective social consciousness, whereby reigniting the passion for the Aggrotech and Industrial styles.

With residencies at Til Two Club in San Diego, California, and through Rapture, Barbieserk continues to evolve and captivate audiences.
Her vision for the future is bright, and she is eager to connect with fans and listeners who share Her passion through Her social media platforms on Facebook and Instagram.

Barbieserk’s journey as a DJ is one of relentless dedication, overcoming obstacles, and embracing the transformative power of music.

“Remember through music, we can find solace, connect with others, and strive for empowering positive social change.”

As pioneers of the genre, they are often regarded as one of the “Big Three,” alongside Queensrÿche and Dream Theater, responsible for shaping and popularizing this distinctive style. The band’s early work, influenced by the new wave of British heavy metal, also played a pivotal role in the development of American power metal.

With a discography comprising thirteen studio albums, two live albums, one compilation album, three DVDs featuring captivating live performances, and four demo tapes, Fates Warning has firmly established their legacy as an enduring force in the world of progressive metal. Notably, their 1986 release, Awaken the Guardian, marked their first commercial success, reaching No. 191 on the Billboard 200 and becoming the inaugural Metal Blade release to enter the chart.

Their subsequent albums, including No Exit (1988), Perfect Symmetry (1989), and Parallels (1991), achieved significant acclaim, with the first two peaking at No. 111 and No. 141 on the Billboard 200, respectively. By 2001, Fates Warning had sold over a million albums worldwide, solidifying their position as a progressive metal powerhouse.

Journey into the Melancholic Abyss: Discover DELREI’s Haunting Post-Nuclear Soundscapes

In the realm of music, there are certain compositions that transcend time and space, evoking emotions and painting vivid landscapes in our minds. Alessandro Mercanzin, an Italian musician known as DELREI, has masterfully crafted such an auditory experience with his debut album, “Desolation and Radiation.” This wordless vision of a lost world from the future captivates listeners with its melancholy tones, taking them on a hypnotic journey through an inhospitable post-nuclear desert.

Within the haunting melodies of “Desolation and Radiation,” Mercanzin weaves together a tapestry of musical elements. The shadowy twang of electric guitars, the dusty spectral melodies, the driving orchestral timpani, and the rustic sounds of instruments like banjo, harmonica, and mouth harp all contribute to the orchestration of this mythic western of the future. It is a sonic landscape that embraces solitude, cold haunted nights, and lonely red vistas, leaving the listener with a sense of somber personal reflection.

Reflecting on his creative process, Alex explains, “To me, ‘Desolation and Radiation’ represents a melancholic portrayal of lost dreams in a future world. With a ghostly sound echoing in my mind, I sought to convey dark and intriguing riffs, realizing that I could speak volumes with just a few whispered notes from my guitars. Each song on this album paints a dramatic scene, transporting me to a reverb-drenched wasteland in a parallel universe.”

Delrei Tracklisting:

  1. Solitario
  2. Into the Wasteland
  3. Nowhere to Ride
  4. Ensenada
  5. Far from Here
  6. Get Lost Blues
  7. Lonely Night
  8. Dusk
  9. Country
  10. Mysterious Traveler
  11. Daydream

Assisting Mercanzin in shaping this musical opus is producer Maurizio Baggio, known for his work with artists like Soft Moon, Boy Harsher, and Nuovo Testamento. Together, they explore various genres, incorporating influences from Giallo-pulp and the evocative scores that have shaped Mercanzin’s musical evolution. While they tease, avoid, and embrace the clichés of Italian Spaghetti Westerns, their adventurous sound emerges from a rich tapestry of guitars, vintage instruments, reverbs, and the traditional Sicilian harp known as the marranzanu. Maurizio’s vintage synths and old 60s organs add depth and texture to the compositions, while Michele Tedesco’s haunting trumpets in “Nowhere to Ride” and Stefano Miozzo’s pedal steel guitar in “Far from Here” provide additional layers of musicality.

Beyond the immersive sonic experience, “Desolation and Radiation” carries a veiled message—a cautionary tale that urges us to learn from the mistakes of the past to prevent a terrifying future. It serves as a reminder that our actions in the present have the power to shape the trajectory of our world.

Projekt Records, known for its dedication to innovative and thought-provoking music, proudly welcomes DELREI and their debut album. “Desolation and Radiation” is available as a Name-Your-Price title on Bandcamp, allowing listeners to support the artist while immersing themselves in this captivating musical journey. CRYPTOPSY Release Announcement: “As Gomorrah Burns,” on September 8th! Watch the Thrilling New Single/Video, “In Abeyance,” and Get Ready for Their Epic Fall 2023 Headlining North American Tour!

Canadian kings of technical death metal, CRYPTOPSY, have made a resounding announcement that has sent shockwaves through the metal community. After over a decade of anticipation, they are set to release their highly awaited full-length album, titled “As Gomorrah Burns,” on September 8th, courtesy of Nuclear Blast Records. The groundbreaking quartet is back with a vengeance, showcasing their renewed vigor and unwavering commitment to pushing the boundaries of extreme music.

“As Gomorrah Burns” promises to be one of CRYPTOPSY’s most tumultuous and ambitious albums yet, continuing their tradition of sonic exploration and complex songwriting. Vocalist Matt McGachy expressed his excitement about the upcoming release, describing it as a meticulous endeavor that perfectly blends the old-school CRYPTOPSY sound with modern twists. The album features infectious grooves and a breath of fresh air, allowing the riffs to shine in ways that haven’t been seen in their recent releases. McGachy is thrilled about this new era for CRYPTOPSY, and fans can expect a captivating musical journey that stays true to the band’s roots while embracing their evolution.

To give fans a taste of what’s to come, CRYPTOPSY has unleashed the first single, “In Abeyance,” along with an accompanying music video directed by Chris Kells (The Agonist, Beneath The Massacre). McGachy describes the single as a conceptually intense exploration of feeling isolated in a new environment, searching for a sense of belonging while mourning a previous life. Musically, “In Abeyance” is a forceful slap in the face, appearing deceptively straightforward but revealing layers of intricate complexity upon closer inspection.

Fans can pre-order “As Gomorrah Burns” now and stream “In Abeyance” to get a taste of the fury that awaits them. The album promises to be a relentless onslaught of extreme metal, featuring tracks like “Lascivious Undivine,” “Flayed The Swine,” and “Praise The Filth.” The anticipation surrounding the release is at an all-time high, with listeners eagerly awaiting the album’s arrival.

Looking back at CRYPTOPSY’s storied career, it’s evident that they have continually pushed the boundaries of death metal. Formed in 1992, the band quickly became known for their uncompromising attack and unparalleled musicality. Their debut album, “Blasphemy Made Flesh,” shocked the metal world, and subsequent releases like “None So Vile” and “Once Was Not” solidified their status as apex predators in the genre. They have embarked on high-profile tours, performing over 1,000 shows across 47 countries.

“As Gomorrah Burns” not only serves as a follow-up to their previous EPs, “The Book of Suffering – Tome I” and “The Book of Suffering – Tome II,” but also represents a new era for the band. Crafted over two years during the pandemic, the album is the result of painstaking dedication and an arduous songwriting process. The initial sessions took place in a cabin in the haunting forests of Quebec, providing an eerie backdrop for the creation of this beastly album. Guitarist and producer Christian Donaldson, together with his bandmates Matt McGachy, Flo Mounier, and Olivier “Oli” Pinard, channeled their collective energies to create eight slabs of unadulterated barbarity. The production of the album was helmed by Donaldson, ensuring that CRYPTOPSY’s vision was executed flawlessly.

As Gomorrah Burns” Tracklisting

  1. Lascivious Undivine
  2. In Abeyance
  3. Godless Deceiver
  4. Ill Ender
  5. Flayed The Swine
  6. The Righteous Lost
  7. Obeisant
  8. Praise The Filth

Conceptually, “As Gomorrah Burns” delves into the collision of the Biblical story of Sodom and Gomorrah with the modern-day Internet. McGachy’s vision was to explore how the internet serves as both a birthplace of invention and a cesspool of exploitation. The album touches upon real-life incidents of online stalking, cults, misinformation, isolation, and intimidation, amplifying their impact through devious ornamentation. The striking cover art, created by Italian artist Paolo Girardi, perfectly complements the album’s old-world lyrical themes, creating a visual representation of the darkness that lies within.

“As Gomorrah Burns” is an aggressive and thought-provoking masterpiece that pierces through the mundane and relentlessly delivers uncompromising death metal. The album captures the essence of what our world needs—a ferocious and unyielding musical force that only CRYPTOPSY can provide. McGachy emphatically declares that CRYPTOPSY is not merely a legacy band but a modern and relevant force in extreme music. With “As Gomorrah Burns,” CRYPTOPSY invites listeners to embark on a thrilling journey that is as relevant today as it was 30 years ago.

In addition to the upcoming album, CRYPTOPSY has tantalized fans with news of an impending fall headlining “Carnival Of Death” tour across North America. The tour dates will be announced soon, and it is sure to be a monumental event for fans of extreme music. Cryptopsy’s live performances are renowned for their energy and intensity, leaving audiences breathless and craving more. This tour will undoubtedly be an unmissable experience for metal enthusiasts.

Prepare for a Brutal Metal Onslaught: Asinhell’s Debut Album ‘Impii Hora’ to Rock Your World!

Featuring renowned musicians Michael Poulsen from Volbeat, Marc Grewe from Insidious Disease and ex-Morgoth, and Morten Toft Hansen from Raunchy, Asinhell is here to make their mark. Their debut album, titled “Impii Hora” (meaning Ungodly Hour in Latin), pays homage to Poulsen’s favorite old-school groups. With a foundation of crushing riffs, the songs also incorporate captivating guitar hooks and anthemic refrains.

Prepare for the release of “Impii Hora” on September 29th through Metal Blade Records.
Pre-Order the Album HERE!!!.

To give you a taste of their music, Asinhell has unveiled the lyric video: Watch Fall Of The Loyal Warrior HERE

Poulsen expresses his enthusiasm, stating, “We’re very excited to share the first taste of Asinhell with ‘Fall Of The Loyal Warrior.’ The song is a tribute to bands I love, like Bolt Thrower, Entombed, Autopsy, Grave, and Darkthrone. They are the reason why we can do this in the first place, and we proudly embrace their influence. The album draws inspiration from late ’80s and early ’90s old-school death metal, with one of our brightest points of inspiration being the mighty Death, led by the legendary Chuck Schuldiner. There’s a lot of Death in there. Schuldiner is one of my favorite death metal vocalists, along with our vocalist Marc [Grewe]. So, to me, this song is the combination of two of my favorites. ‘Let the metal flow,’ as Chuck would have said!”

While Poulsen is known for his roles in Volbeat and Dominus, he sought a different frontman for Asinhell. In March 2022, he reached out to his old friend, Marc Grewe, former vocalist of Morgoth and current member of Insidious Disease, inviting him to join the band. Grewe gladly accepted, stating, “I had known Michael for quite a long time, and he always mentioned that we should do a death metal project someday. I didn’t take it too seriously at first because he was so busy with Volbeat. But then he called for real and said, ‘Yeah, I want to do it now. Are you up for it?’ Immediately, I said, ‘Yes, of course!'”

After considering several accomplished drummers, Poulsen approached Morten Toft Hansen from the Danish group Raunchy.
Not only does Morten possess incredible drumming skills, but he and Poulsen’s six-year-old daughters are also close friends, and Morten’s place is just a short 10-minute drive away.
The experienced musicians began practicing together and managed to complete a full song almost every time they got together. When it was time to write the vocals, Grewe was in Germany, so Poulsen sent him recordings from their rehearsals to kick-start the process. Drawing from their years of experience and renewed passion for destruction, Poulsen and Toft Hansen captured a fiery storm in a bottle.

Within just a year, Asinhell’s concept transformed into the creation of their power-packed full-length album, “Impii Hora.” Poulsen sought Volbeat’s management to help find a suitable label for Asinhell, and he was thrilled when they mentioned that Metal Blade Records’ founder, Brian Slagel, would be interested in the band. Once Slagel heard “Impii Hora,” he made Asinhell a top priority.

“It’s such a dream come true for me to be on fucking Metal Blade Records. When they said they wanted to put out the album, I felt like I was 17 years old again. I couldn’t believe it – making a deal with Metal Blade! How cool is that? It’s like finally realizing the record deal I had dreamed of as a teenager.” – Michael Poulsen

The Transformative Power of Healthy Relationships on Mental Well-being

Personal relationships, particularly our romantic partnerships, possess an incredible capacity to shape our mental well-being. Recent research published in Current Directions in Psychological Science by Susan C. South illuminates the profound connection between dysfunctional relationships and mental illness.

Let’s delve into the captivating insights of this study and discover how prioritizing healthy relationships can positively impact our mental health.

The impact of relationships on mental health cannot be underestimated. Thriving in well-functioning relationships contributes to our overall well-being, while enduring conflict and dissatisfaction can inflict significant harm. It is disheartening to learn that individuals trapped in unhappy partnerships are more vulnerable to experiencing mental health issues such as PTSD, depression, alcohol use disorders, and generalized anxiety.

Challenging prevailing assumptions, the research suggests that dysfunctional relationships can be precursors to mental health problems, rather than the other way around. Longitudinal studies have revealed that distressed relationships increase the likelihood of developing mental health issues. This underscores the importance of proactively addressing and transforming relationship dynamics to safeguard our mental well-being.

Researchers exploring the intricate link between marital distress and relationship satisfaction have ventured beyond surface-level analysis. By studying long-term heterosexual married couples, they have unearthed invaluable insights into the complex interplay between these factors and mental health outcomes. Understanding the nuances of this connection offers hope for building healthier and more fulfilling relationships.

Twin studies have shed light on the multifaceted role of genetics and environment in the relationship-mental health connection. Genetic factors contributing to relationship distress can also manifest as symptoms of psychopathology. Moreover, environmental influences, including emotional and cognitive risks, as well as the presence of support systems and effective emotion regulation strategies within distressed relationships, play pivotal roles.

While marriage and relationship conflict are widespread experiences, it is essential to recognize that not everyone succumbs to the detrimental effects of dysfunctional relationships. Individuals vulnerable to psychopathology may find their symptoms triggered by distressed romantic relationships. However, it is crucial to note that some possess protective factors that shield them from such repercussions.

This research invites us to shift our focus from broad personality traits to the intricate web of goals, values, and needs that each individual brings to their relationships. Understanding how these aspects are met, or unfortunately unmet, by our partners provides a powerful lens for comprehending the complex dynamics that underpin mental well-being.

The study underscores the transformative potential of healthy relationships on our mental health.
Dysfunctional relationships can serve as warning signs and precursors to mental illness.

We can feel the urge to reflect on the quality of our relationships and seek professional help if we find ourselves resonating with the challenges discussed.
By prioritizing supportive and nourishing relationships, we embark on a path towards enhanced mental well-being.
Let’s all proactively nurture our relationships, tune into our needs, and courageously seek the support necessary to cultivate profound emotional flourishing.

Many forms of help are readily available, offering guidance and healing along this transformative journey.
Reach out, however possible.

Remember,
You ARE NOT ALONE.
You matter,
You are worthy, of love,
and you are enough.

Faderhead releases online course

Faderhead has taught people since 2007 how to give presentations (it was one of the subjects he taught at the sports academy) and this course is a mix of 15+ years experience as a lecturer for presentation training and 27 years as a musician on stage.

If you ever have to give presentations for school, job or in any other setting, then there’s a 99% chance that you have never had useful training for how to communicate your ideas to people. And no, the one weekend seminar your company paid for in 2007 doesn’t count. Neither does the thing your professor told you 30 years ago or that article you read in your favorite online mag.

Faderhead hasn’t found any course online that’s even remotely close in content quality for this specific topic. Because they either are “public speaking” courses (like Toastmasters) or “How to design Powerpoint slides” classes.

Or they are €1000+ in-person weekend seminars, where you spend a ton of time (16h) in a hotel and in the end still have to do all the work to improve your skills at home.If you have to give presentations in any setting, then you will benefit immensely from this course.

The website Rockstar Presenter is providing good value and so here is a bonus lesson that Faderhead also added to the course recently:

10 STEPS TO BECOMING A ROCKSTAR ONLINE PRESENTER

The Covid-19 pandemic became the beginning of online meetings and presentations on a mass scale.

While almost all rules for giving good in-person presentations still exist in online meetings, there are new pitfalls and skills that you need to master to become a Rockstar Online Presenter.

The first major issue is that – very quickly – the presentation becomes about your shared screen and not about you as a person/presenter. That means: everyone just reads your slides, while you have disappeared. This is terrible, because everyone can read the slides much faster than you can talk about them. It also removes you from the presentation.

My favorite way to get around that is by using an app called mmhmm

Faderhead knows the name sucks, but the app is great for engaging presentations, because during a virtual meeting it lets you be on screen at the same time as your presentation slides:

It works with Zoom, Teams and Google Meet and if you give a lot of presentations online, mmhmm is my favorite choice for virtual presentations.Zoom also allows you to do something similar, by setting your PowerPoint or Keynote slides as a virtual background. For an in-depth explanation on how to do this, you can read more here.

Unfortunately neither Teams nor Google Meet seem to allow this, which is why Faderhead preferes mmhmm, which is a standalone app that acts as your virtual camera.

Regardless of which technical solution you choose:

Make sure you are on screen at the same time as your slide content!
The difference in connection this creates is off the charts!
Try it and bathe in the positive feedback you will get!

10 Steps To Becoming A Rockstar Online Presenter:

Step 1:

Know your software inside out! Be it Zoom, Teams or whatever you are using.
Do you know how to:
Share your screen
Share files
Give admin or speaker roles to other people
Use the chat
Mute/Unmute yourself and others
Turn your camera on/off
Use filters and evaluate if blurring the background would be appropriate

If not, figure it out before you move on to step 2.

Step 2:

You have to give a very engaging presentation;
Reading facts off a slide doesn’t cut it anymore!
It’s harder to keep people engaged when they’re looking at a screen and may be getting distracted by something in their real life. Unless you have a clear system and plan to do this, you will be terrible at it. Trust me, most professional presenters are terrible at it.
Luckily my course teaches you exactly how!

Step 3:

If the meeting is just about communicating facts, save everyone the time and send a PDF or a pre-recorded video (Faderheaduse Loom for that).
Live presentations/meetings should only happen if you are personally trying to communicate ideas that need your presence for emotional reasons or to clarify/negotiate/persuade.

Step 4:

Online presenters often look at their screen instead of into their webcam.

This looks very impersonal!

Put your presentation content window right under your webcam and look at it! If you have a separate webcam, put your webcam above the screen that has your presentation content. Then put your presentation content window right under your webcam and look at it.
Faderhead can’t stress this enough. It makes a big difference!

Step 5:

Get everything ready long before the meeting. Online meetings often start late because the presenter has to check this or that. Or has technical issues (see step 1).

Step 6:

The presenter should be in a quiet space with no background noise. If that is impossible, use a good headset mic with background noise cancelling technology.

Step 7:

Enforce mute for everyone except the speaker;
Background noise from many people builds up quickly and ruins any online meeting/presentation! In discussions: mute yourself when you are not speaking. Setup “push-to-talk” for that! That is a function where you have to press a key to temporarily unmute yourself and talk.

Step 8:

Know how long you will talk.
Leave ample time for Q&A and plan it 50/50 or 60/40 with your talk.

Step 9:

Giving presentations is not natural for anyone. Often “good talkers” are the worst presenters because they think they can just wing it.
Don’t be that person!

Step 10:

Additional steps for successful and productive online meetings:
Only invite people who are actually relevant to the meeting. If it’s unclear who the participants are going to be: try to sort that out beforehand!
Send an agenda before the meeting. If there is no agenda, the listeners can’t prep and don’t know what’s needed of them.
Include 2 additional sections at the very end: “next steps” and “q&a”
Send a summary email after the online meeting, especially if to do’s were agreed upon. Include: who, what, by when in a simple list format.

Seth Godin said it best when he wrote:

The purpose of a meeting is not to fill the allocated slot on the Google calendar invite. The purpose is to communicate an idea and the emotions that go with it, and to find out what’s missing via engaged conversation. If you promise not to check your email while we’re talking, we promise to not waste your time.

Hope you got something out of this, even if you don’t have to give presentations for school or work!

When writing down these 10 steps, my initial thought was

“Duh! That’s all so obvious!”,

but less than 1% of all presenters actually do all of this!

80% don’t do ANY of these things – and just by incorporating the easiest ones would improve their presentations by a lot, and that is the interesting part about life:
